Proactive Traffic Management via Unusual Congestion Recognition from Floating Car Data - Luca Paone | September 16, 2024, 9:00am | Session Room: Sharjah D
In urban areas around the world traffic congestion remains a significant challenge. To address this, we propose an innovative solution for the detection and management of traffic congestions. This solution leverages Floating Car Data (FCD) and advanced machine learning techniques. It enables real-time monitoring and predictive analytics in traffic management. We present an application of this method on a test case in New York City (USA).
SIS 9: Smart Infrastructure Deployments for Increased Safety and Mobility in the US and UAE - Dario Menichetti, Ph.D. | September 16, 2024, 3:15pm - 4:45pm | Sheikh Maktoum Hall D
Technology is rapidly transforming traffic infrastructure and is having major impacts on road user safety and mobility. This panel will explore smart infrastructure deployments by forward-thinking road owners and operators across the US and the UAE including the city of Seattle, the city of Dublin, Ohio, Dubai Silicon Oasis, UAE, among others. The panelists will present how they made use of smart infrastructure such as AI-powered sensors and V2X communication technologies to address their most pressing challenges.
Cloud-based Digital Twin for Public Transport Operational Decision Support - Daniele Tiddi, Ph.D. | September 17, 2024, 2:00pm | Session Room: Sharjah D
This presentation presents U-SIM.live, a simulation tool that uses macroscopic simulation to help public transport operators & mobility agencies in their operative tasks. U-SIM.live enhances transparency by using city live data to inform the transport operator, agency and eventually passengers.
Analysis of the impact of fleet renewal and electrification on clean mobility through simulation - Dr.-Ing. Matthias Pfriem | | September 17, 2024, 4:00pm | Session Room: Abu Dhabi A
Air pollution is a global threat for public health and climate change is one of the biggest challenges of modern times. The transport sector is a significant contributor of emissions to both dimensions, mainly through use of fossil fuels. Fleet renewal and electrification enable cleaner mobility, reducing both greenhouse gases and pollutants. This presentation concentrates on a real case use case that analysed different different scenarios.
New Data-Driven Dilemma Zone and Intersection Safety Strategies Needed for a Vision Zero Future - Snehasis "Sunny" Chakravarty | September 19, 2024, 11:00am - 12:30pm | Room: Abu Dhabi B
Despite advances in traffic control technologies and systems, safety at the “dilemma zone” remains operationally problematic. According to Gazis, Herman, and Maradudin’s original 1960s dilemma zone research, a dilemma zone is defined as the area in which a driver is unable to stop safely before the stop bar, or proceed through the intersection before the signal turns red. In his presentation Sunny will discuss what is needed to finally realize a Vision Zero Future.

Detailed Road Traffic Emission Calculation with Microscopic Simulation
Road traffic is a major pollutant, especially in urban environments. Microscopic simulation can offer detailed emission calculation on basis of individual vehicle trajectories in combination with validated powertrain models. This allows for a quantitative assessment of measures like speed limits, entry bans, electrification etc. to set the policy mix to achieve your air quality targets.

Predict and manage traffic in real-time with PTV Optima
In traffic management, whether it is a standard day, or there is an emergency, traffic control centre operators are asked to take in few time very impactful decisions. Small differences can make the difference from a success to an even worse issue. See how PTV Optima offers quantitative assessments of operational measures, before putting these into actions. See how very short time and effort is required to take large scale decisions.
